MAXQDA for Qualitative Data Analysis: A Practical Guide for Researchers

Step 1: Import Data
First, to input data such as texts, documents,
and media files, users should click on the import tab and select the most
appropriate icon for their data type. To import interview transcripts, users
should click on transcripts, and to load Word files, PDF documents, and Excel
files, they should select the Texts, PDFs, and Tables tab. Second, a dialog
window appears, in which users select the field to be imported. The files are
inserted into the open MAXQDA project and displayed in the Document System window.
Step 2: Explore Data
MAXQDA makes it easy for researchers to look
through their files and understand their data. To explore qualitative data in
MAXQDA, double-click on a document in the Document System window, and it will
open in the Document Browser. Researchers can explore data by intensively
reading interviews and writing initial memos and case summaries. To create a
memo, users should double-click somewhere in the memo sector, and a memo dialog
window will automatically open.

Developing categories is done through the Code
System window, where researchers first add new codes by clicking on the green

that appears, users should enter the code name and the description of the new
code into the code memo field. Third, researchers should click Additional code
to develop a second and third code, then click Ok to finish creating codes.

document browser and dragging and dropping it to a code in the codes window.
